One of the largest pieces of oak furniture ever to come to auction, by Yorkshire’s master craftsman Robert “Mouseman” Thompson, appears in Tennants of Leyburn sale on Saturday 4 April.
The massive fire surround, integral settles and panelling was commissioned by Grattans in 1931 for their boardroom in Bradford – and is now re-erected in the auctioneers’ saleroom, where people are invited to search for a very special little mouse, with a unique “nodding head”, over the four open days preceding the sale. The firm of Robert Thompson’s Craftsmen Ltd was unaware of this one off life-like trade mark made by the hand of Robert Thompson himself.
