An Ancient Greek "Illyrian" Type Bronze Helmet, possibly 2nd Century BC, with two parallel raised ridges to the skull, with forward pointing cheek protectors and upturned flange neck, verdigris patination, some damage to skull.
Guide Price:
£5000-7000
The metal to the top of the skull along the right ridge is very fragile, with a 4cm by 3cm hole (most of the pieces are available). The flange neck has a crack running around the inner edge. There are three punched holes to the back above the flange neck, a further hole to the forehead and another to each point of the cheek protectors. The vendor has had this in his possession for the last six or seven years, and he paid more than the top estimate for it from a dealer in antiquities. He is reluctantly having to sell it!
