Eduard Sack (1857-1913)
"The Sheik's Daughter"
Signed, inscribed on an exhibition label verso, oil on panel, 40cm by 50cm
The painting was exhibited at the Royal Academy Winter Exhibition in 1909, loaned by Mrs George McCulloch, London
The artist exhibited at the Academie de Berlin and was a pupil of Kaspar Kogler, Ferdinand Keller. He was born in Boppard and died in Hamburg
In an excellent state of preservation and has never been restored or cleaned and is under glass. There is good impasto in places and delicately applied glazes in other areas with some paint crackelure and shrinkage but this is minimal. There is some discolouration on the breast and arm of the girl on the right. It is painted on a good quality panel which seems to have two strengthening bars running from top to bottom, 12cm from either edge of the panel and the work is sealed in to the elaborately decorated gilt plaster and wooden Victorian frame. 141009
