A Gilt and Gesso Four-Poster Bed, probably 19th century, the upper section with a domed top with gilt beaded and scrolling brackets, the canopy of concave form, each section centred by an oval medallion of Grecian figures headed by ribbon tied motifs and leaf moulded decoration, each corner with C scroll acanthus brackets supporting pink and blue gathered silk, the pink button back headboard with leaf and flower plume, the end section supported by two leaf cast and fluted upright posts, 175cm by 250cm by 310cm

Condition Report:
The giltwork has been heavily overpainted. The canopy top is the old section, while the post are new timber. The canopy top with various pieces of gesso cracked and with glue marks and overpainting. Gilt posts at the front with various cracks, glue marks, and gesso which has been replaced and heavily overpainted in gilt. The pink fabric is particularly faded on the bedspread cover, the valance and the drapes to the right side of the bed. 200710
