The artist studied at Liverpool School of Art and Academie Julian in Paris. He exhibited at all the principle London galleries from 1891, including the RA, Royal Society of Portrait Painters and RI. He lived in Liverpool and was the president of the Liverpool Academy of Arts

Condition Report: The work appears to be in good order and is delicately painted with soft pastel shades of colour, however, the outer gilt plaster and wooden frame is rather damaged in the bottom right hand corner with plaster missing in this area. Further plaster is missing down the right hand edge. It is contained within a double cream mount, the outer mount being a washline mount, and is under glass (190510)
