A Dutch Delft Battle of Dogger Bank Commemorative Plate, circa 1781, painted in blue and orange with a Dutch man o'war above the inscription Doeopde doggere bank dem parker opkwanm dage Zoutmann hem Stout berrogt on dappen fleelt geslaagern within a husk border, 23.5cm diameter

The plate commemorates the Battle of Dogger Bank on 15th August 1781, between the Dutch and the British. Thirteen British ships under the command of Admiral Hyde Parker met a similar number of Dutch ships under Admiral Zoutmann.

A Dutch Delft Earthquake Commemorative Plate, dated 1692, inscribed in blue Den 18 Septembe wasser een aertbeving overal within a double line border, 22cm diameter

The inscription translates as The 18th September was an earthquake everywhere and refers to the 1692 earthquake centred on the Belgian Ardennes, causing widespread damage from Kent to the Rhinelands and Champagne and is believed to have been between 6 and 6.25 in magnitude.

This plate is sold with a letter from the Rijksmuseum suggesting that there is only one other example known of this type with only text and no other decoration.
