For a discussion of a similar blue ground mug see May (John & Jennifer) Commemorative Pottery 1780-1900, pg.50 where these mugs are described as puzzling. The date of the mug is the anniversary of the Coronation and on this date a field day was held by the Honourable Artillery Company with a subsequent dinner with HRH The Duke of Sussex. It is possible that these mugs were produced for this event.
