A Victorian Silver Gilt Presentation Snuff Box, Nathaniel Mills, Birmingham 1844, rectangular with convex sides, the plain lid and textured body with high relief scrolls, the lid with inscription Presented by the Royal Cork Yacht Club to Joseph C Ewart of the Edith Yacht, as a mark of the approbation of his disinterested conduct at the Cork Harbour Regatta of 1844, in towing the Union Yacht into a place of safety when dis-masted in a severe gale thereby relinquishing his chance of the race in which he was then engaged. 12.3cm wide, 16oz
The snuff box contains a document admitting J C Ewart Esq as an Honorary Member of The Royal Cork Yacht Club, with red wax seal
The yacht was the property of Joseph Ewart, MP, great grandfather of the present owner
