George Whipp was initially an architect, who went on to photograph and report on damage caused by British bombs, He orchestrated the flight paths and size of bombs needed to destroy enemy targets including submarine pens. His work shows meticulous attention to detail. Most of the photographs are aerial, but some have obviously been taken in secret on the ground and show prisoners of war working on construction

**Arthur King joined the Royal Navy in 1913. He served in the First World War and in peacetime, entering the Reserve in 1937. He had just two months left to serve when the Second World War was declared and subsequently found himself back on active service. He rose to the rank of CPO. He was an excellent swimmer
