A 16 Bore Double Barrel Percussion Cap Sporting Gun by J F Whitecross, Darnick, Melrose, the 74cm browned twist steel barrels signed on the rib, stamped 16 and with London proof marks, with platinum plugs, foliate engraved tang and hammers, the signed lock plates engraved with game birds, the well figured walnut half stock with chequered grip, silver trigger guard, fore-end tip and butt plate engraved with foliate scrolls and with hallmarks for Birmingham 1846, with ramrod, contained in a mahogany case. The hinged cover with inset brass handle, the circular backplate engraved with the Innes family crest of a boar's head below the legend BE TRAIS, the inner cover set with a maker's paper label for Smith & Alden, London, inscribed in pencil "Presented in 1832 to James Innes ....Broomlands by His Grace the Duke of Roxburghe", the embossed pigskin lined fitted base with lidded compartments of accessories. The Accessories include two nipple dispensers in nickel and brass, a wad punch, a T handled nipple key/turn-screw with screw covers containing spare nipples, three ebony handled nipple keys, a brass handled nipple key and a steel T handled nipple key, a mainspring clamp, oil bottle, cap tin, a bag of waterproof safety primers, a leather shot flask and a Hawkesley copper powder flask embossed with hanging game and fruiting vine, with nickel charger
