The artist was a self-taught painter and teacher working mainly in watercolour, acrylic, oil and collage. Born in Stettin, Germany, he moved to the UK in 1938 and began teaching at Leeds College of Art in 1960. From 1968 he was Head of Fine Art until retirement in 1980. Many public collections hold his work including Bradford, Durham, Lancaster, Leeds University etc and also at Wollongong in Australia where he was artist-in-residence in the early 1980's.
