A Chinese Export Lacquer Octagonal Games Box, circa 1800-20, the shallow lid with ogee moulded swept rim, decorated all over in gilt with extensive lakeland scenes, flowers, figures and pavilions, opening to reveal five shaped boxes and a stack of twelve counter dishes, the largest box inset with relief carved ivory cribbage board, the other boxes containing a set of fifteen red stained and plain ivory draughts counters, a chess set, a folding lacquer draughts and backgammon board (fitting into a recess), two packs of cards (probably 20th century), one hundred and forty-one carved, pierced and incised mother of pearl gaming counters in the form of fish, rectangles and circles, a pair of English turned lignum vitae dice shakers, and a cedarwood and bone inlaid miniature draughts board with red stained and natural ivory chess set (in cedar box), and five cribbage markers, the box raised on foliate carved paw feet, 38cm wide, 17cm high See illustration
