An Alex Martin Grouse Butt Marker "The Age", in brass, of circular form, the obverse set with a piece of ivorine marked into quarters centred by a circle, the dividing lines marked F B L R , with a hinged clip or spike, and attached pencil, 11cm diameter, in a leather case.
**Alex Martin's Catalogue (33rd Edition) states "Helps to fill the bag by bagging all you kill", and describes "The Age" as having a slate like material , the position of the spot where the birds fall is marked with an X at the angle and distance dropped. The spike holds the marker in position on the gun butt.
