Two boxes of books and ephemera from the estate of Christopher Tolhurst Spencer Hawkins of Sunderland Bridge, Co. Durham, including several early 20th century albums and notebooks of Beryl S. Spencer Hawkins, containing her mss. verse and prose, sketches, doodles and other jottings, as well as the original manuscript for her children's story Told in a Garden (1923, London, Hutchinson & Co.), in loose typed and mss. sheets arranged by chapter, with an original pen & ink illustration to the book; a 1916 album of sketches and musings, each signed by the contributors, probably visitors; some small books and pamphlets of poetry and prose by contemporaries and literary friends (some privately published?), such as Denise Robins; Tonbridge School registers; Memoirs of William Hickey, 4 vols; Thackeray's Works; Webster's New International Dictionary, 2 vols; prayer books etc., also a biography of Stanley Spencer (a relation?) by Collis.
Lot includes a Map of Sunderland Bridge (rolled in a tube), some records (in original sleeves and arranged in an album) and a glass ink well with engraved hunting scene with desk seal with mother-of-pearl handle (qty)
