A Large Thabeik Bowl, Burma, late 19th century, of semi-ovoid form, worked in high relief with a continuous frieze of figures illustrating Jataka stories, with many figures, one mounted on an elephant, the underside engraved with a lion, London import marks, Lizzie Chapple, London 1898, 20.4cm high, 62oz Provenance: Formerly the property of Sir William John Keith, one time Administrator in Burma. Sir William lived until his death in St Margarets, Dunbar, now Winterfield Golf Clubhouse.The Jataka Tales refer to a voluminous body of folklore type literature related to India concerning the previous births of the Buddha.
