Over its long and distinguished history, Tennants has sold a diverse and interesting collection of paintings, from 17th and 18th century masterpieces through to modern British art. We continue to attract an increasing number of serious art buyers from around the world.
Examples by Yorkshire, Lake District and Northumbrian artists perform particularly well, while Irish and Scottish works often attract a great many private collectors fiercely competing for their ownership.
Tennants holds the world record for the painter Sean Keating (1889-1978), selling Ulysses off Connemara for £400,000. James McIntosh Patrick’s Jura Village, Argyllshire realised £17,000 in November 2007 and in the same sale we sold Laurence Stephen Lowry’s Factory Gates with Figures for £140,000.
Other strong performers are works by the Staithes Group of artists such as Mark Senior (1862-1927), Jackson, Bagshawe, Hopwood, and Hedley. Herbert Royle (1870-1958) and all the members of the Wharfedale Group are also highly sought after by collectors.
We are happy to provide information and advice to both buyers and sellers, including expert valuations free of charge.
