Coins & MedallionsJeffrey Gardiner Jeffrey left school at fifteen and went to work underground at Lambton and Lumley Collieries where he was privileged to see coal mining ‘the traditional way’. Later, as a regular soldier, he was first stationed in Paris and then with Air Formation Signals detachment in Germany. Whilst in France he developed his life long study of numismatics, spending most holidays and weekends in the Paris flea markets gaining knowledge of the antique trade. After returning to England, he joined Rothmans. Jeffrey is a member of the British Numismatics Society, The Token Corresponding Society and Darlington Collectors’ Club. In 1996 he published ‘The Standard Work on North East Tokens’ and writes and lectures regularly on all aspects of Northern numismatics and history.
