Indian Khanjar sells for £10,500 at Tennants

During Tennants Militaria Sale on Saturday, 30th September an 18th Century Indian Khanjar sold for £10,500 (estimate £1,800-£2,500).

This rare and beautifully crafted weapon had a curved double edge steel blade and a richly cast gold hilt with milky white jade mounts and inset cabochon rubies with a crimson velvet covered sheath.  It belonged to a lady from Lancashire who inherited it and after loaning it to a museum for a period of time, she decided to sell it through Tennants in Leyburn, North Yorkshire. It is likely that the Khanjar was originally made in India for an Indian Prince.

The Khanjar came to light during a valuation visit by Adam Wasdell of Tennants and since then this lady has also successfully sold a number of other items through Tennants including pieces of fine furniture and silver tableware.

Tennants next Militaria Sale will be in February 2007.  To arrange a valuation visit or for more information on buying or selling at auction contact Tennants on 01969 623780
