Decorative Tribal Masks and Shields to sell at Auction

Tennants Sporting & Militaria Sale Friday 26 October 10.30am Ethnographica is booming at Tennants Auctioneers. Desirable not only for its historical significance but also for its interior design applications, some of the tribal shields and masks are particularly sought after. The prices which can be achieved at auction also reflect the desirability of these interesting and decorative objects. Mainly from Papua New Guinea and Africa the collection which Tennants is offering for sale on Friday, 26th October 2007 will, no doubt, attract buyers from far and wide looking for unusual items for their collections and also to adorn their homes. Illustrated in the attached image, clockwise from top left: From Papua New Guinea there is a large Mask used as a Tambaran house entrance decoration (estimate £80-£120) and a rare wooden Shield (estimate £250-£300). A Kamba wooden stool from South Africa is estimated at £300-£500 and a Bushoong ‘Bwoon’ Helmet Mask from Kuba, Congo is likely to sell for £250-£300. A Nyamwezi wooden bed from Tanzania is estimated at £1,200-£1,800 and also from Tanzania a Kaguru Wooden Throne is estimated at £600-£800. A pair of Angolan Wooden Fertility dolls is estimated to sell for £500-£700.
