One for the Money, Two for the Show...

Dust off those blue suede shoes, rock‘n’roll is back! – well at least at Tennants Auction Centre on Saturday 12th May, where as part of a Rock‘n’Roll musical-themed sale Tennants will be offering a collection of both interesting and collectable guitars and jukeboxes.

Amongst the guitars on offer will be a rare National Tri-cone steel guitar from 1928.  These unusual looking guitars were introduced in the 1920’s before the introduction of electric guitars in order to increase the volume of the instrument.  Originally used by Hawaiian players, Tri-cones made of “German silver” an alloy of copper and nickel, used three spun aluminium cones to amplify the resonance of the strings.  Later from the 1930’s onwards these unusual guitars were adopted by blues players such as Son House, Bukka White and Blind Boy Fuller and are still highly sought after by blues players of today.  This example is in remarkable condition and is expected to fetch in excess of £5,000.

Also included in the guitar section of the sale is a 1962 Fender Stratocaster as used by Hank Marvin in the early 60s estimate £3,000 - £4,000.  A Gibson 1959 semi-acoustic base guitar EB2, estimate £1,200 - £1,800; a Fender Precision base guitar from 1962, estimate £1,500 - £2,000 and a 1960’s Wilson twelve string electric guitar for all those jangly chords used by the likes of the Birds guitarist Roger McGuin in the psychedelic era.

In the Jukebox section of the sale there is a 1948 Wurlitzer 1100 24 Multi Selection Phonograph Jukebox complete with 78rpm’s (estimate £4,000 - £6,000), a 1958 Seeburg 201 DH Jukebox with 200 45rpm selection (estimate £2,000 - £3,000) and a 1961 Wurlitzer 2500 Jukebox with 200 45rpm selection (estimate £2,000 - £3,000).  In full working order these machines are sure to create lots of interest.  Jukeboxes never go out of fashion and are as desirable today as they have always been.

If you have an old guitar under the bed, or a jukebox gathering dust in the shed and would like advice on selling them, contact Nick Lambert at Tennants on 01969 623780.  Other quality musical instruments will also be accepted for sale.
