comprising a diverse mix of early ceramics, glass, jewellery, silver, works of art, furniture, rugs and more, which epitomise a traditional Country House Sale. From decorative, through to untouched works, we are pleased to be offering for sale the Foden Collection of Ceramics, and selected items from a Private European Collection.
There is a large picture section, comprising over 140 lots, spanning the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Included are decorative works of sporting interest, portraits, landscapes and a good selection of works by Yorkshire and North East artists. Also to note are 17 etchings by Percy Robertson ARE (1868-1934), who was born in Bellagio, Italy in 1868 and was the son of the watercolourist Charles Robertson. Educated at Charterhouse School he won the Leech prize for drawing in 1884. Percy was a watercolourist and etcher. In 1887 he was elected to the society of painter-etchers and engravers (The Royal Society of printmakers), in 1908 he was awarded a full scholarship. In 1905 Percy moved to London where he concentrated on London streets and the Thames. He frequently exhibited at all major exhibition halls showing 166 works at The Royal Society of Painters and etcher and engravers and 33 in the RA. The collection offered within the sale includes a comprehensive range of works depicting London, Scotland, the North East and elsewhere.
