Q & A with Allan

Name: Allan Darwell

Title at Tennants: Head of Paintings Department

No. of years at Tennants: 9 years

Previous employment: Bonhams, Leeds, Retford & Market Harborough (for Knowle)

Favourite lot ever sold & why: A picture by Charles Frederick Tunnicliffe called 'The Turnip Field' - the picture is so evocative of the artist's 1930's/40's work and I adore it because of it's illustrative qualities. I also fell in love with a picture by Andre Derain called 'Sarabande' which Tennants sold several years ago.

Career highlight at Tennants/memorable occasion: Selling the smallest Laurence Stephen Lowry called 'Regent Road, Lytham St Annes' for £62,000 - it's my highlight because it belonged to one of my closest friends.

Important or exciting collections sold through you and why you've enjoyed it: Being part of the successful team selling the Sean (John) Keating painting for £400,000 in 2007.
