Mike is the specialist in charge of the Book Department, dealing with books, maps, ephemera and other related material. He started at Tennants in June 2018, joining consultant Paul Hughes.
Mike learnt the book trade at Henry Sotheran’s in Piccadilly, probably the oldest antiquarian booksellers in the world still trading, where he worked for over four years in the Antiquarian General department. As a result of the department’s broad remit, he has an eclectic experience of books from the antique to modern first editions. He specialises in strange items that required in-depth research to identify.
After moving north, Mike worked freelance for Addisons in Barnard Castle, consulting on books and assisting with cataloguing sporting sales. Mike’s background is in literature, having read English at Corpus Christi, Cambridge and taken a Master's in Medieval Literature and Cultures at Birkbeck, London.
