Leeds-based Marilyn Stowe is one of the UK’s top family lawyers, and following the 2017 sale of her firm - Stowe Family Law - she is now auctioning off her collection of designer clothes in aid of St Gemma’s Hospice. The collection will be coming up for auction in the Vintage Costume and Textiles Sale at Tennants Auctioneers in Leyburn, North Yorkshire, on 10th February.
Stowe had a fantastic, glamourous career in law and built up a stellar international client base for her firm, which she built into the largest family law practice in the UK. She also found time to write four books and appear regularly in the media. She frequently featured on ITV’s This Morning as a family law expert, conducting a regular live phone-in with Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield, and often commented on TV and radio across the BBC Worldwide network and Sky News.
Outside a glittering legal career, Stowe says ‘My hobbies, apart from looking after my husband, son and two dogs, have been distance running and purchasing beautiful designer clothes – both were great for stress release!’.
The chic collection consists of over fifty lots of fabulous Chanel and Louis Vuitton handbags, Christian Louboutin shoes, and tailored dresses, suits and coats by such stellar names as Givenchy, Chanel, Roland Mouret, Victoria Beckham and Gucci. Estimates range from £80-120 (plus buyer’s premium) for a pair of Christian Louboutin ‘Newton D’Orsay’ black leather pumps to £400-600 (plus buyer’s premium) for a Chanel two-piece black and grey Boucle suit. The collection will be available to view in Tennants’ salerooms in Leyburn on 9th February and on the morning of the sale.
Stowe says ‘This sale consists of the best clothes I have collected, donated in aid of St Gemma’s Hospice who took care of my late father, Arnold Morris, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at the same time that my mother, Estelle Morris, was also terminally ill from a diabetic illness. They passed away within 12 days of each other in January 2013. The proceeds of this sale will all go to St Gemma’s, for the part they played in three bleak, dark months following my father’s diagnosis when none of us knew how best to help him’.
Based in Leeds, St Gemma’s is Yorkshire’s largest hospice offering care and support for local people with terminal illnesses. Founded in 1978, the charity is celebrating its 40th Anniversary Year in 2018.
A fully illustrated catalogue for the sale of Vintage Costume and Textiles will be available Tennants’ website leading up to the sale.
