Saleroom Assistant/Van Driver

A Saleroom Assistant/Van Driver is required for our busy Leyburn salerooms. Working as part of a team, the work includes:
Visiting our clients’ homes in one of our company light vans to collect antique furniture, ceramics, pictures and works of art and unloading at our salerooms.
Moving items in the building and at our off-site stores as required.
Helping clients who are dropping off and collecting items to unload/load.
Much of this role involves moving large items of furniture, often from a first-floor setting and you must therefore be capable of this type of work and working on your own initiative. You will often be handling high value items and must be able to work carefully and accurately.
You must be able to communicate effectively with people at all levels and you must have a full clean driving license, previous relevant experience and live within a 30-minute drive of our Leyburn salerooms.
This is a full time, permanent role, with working hours 8am-5pm Monday to Friday and some Saturday working from 8am-2pm.
The Salary is negotiable according to experience.

Trainee/Junior Picture Specialist

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our thriving Picture Department.
As one of the flagship departments within the leading auction house in the North of England, Tennants Picture Department is an exciting, fast paced environment that hosts nine specialist sales a year from British, European & Sporting Art to Modern & Contemporary Art and Country House Sales. In addition to this we regularly host Single Owner sales and fortnightly Antiques and Interiors Sales.
Skills required are at least a basic knowledge of Art History, good team working skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. The role would be supporting the specialists with all aspects of administration and logistics. You must be confident in communicating with the public at all levels, be able to work quickly and accurately to meet tight deadlines and have first class administration skills.
Previous experience within an auction house or gallery environment is desired but not essential.
There is opportunity to grow within the role and scope to progress within the department.
This is a full time, permanent role working 8.30am-5pm and Saturdays on a sale day, on a rota basis, based at our salerooms in Leyburn, North Yorkshire.

Traditional Pictures Specialist

Tennants’ Traditional Pictures Department enjoys an enviable reputation for handling significant works from the 15th-20th Century sourced from illustrious estates, single owner collections and private vendors. We have secured strong hammer prices for Yorkshire and British artwork, as well as continental art, often bolstered by our growing international client base. Works cover portraits, sporting, landscape, marine, botanical and more.

We are seeking a specialist to join this growing and highly regarded department, for six specialist sales a year and in addition to this, working as part of the team to facilitate the fortnightly Antiques & Interiors sales as well as the assisting the Modern & Contemporary Art specialist as necessary. As there is a strong pipeline of business, the role is predominantly cataloguing rather than business getting. The ideal candidate will have significant experience of working at this level, with at least five years specific, industry related experience.

Salary is negotiable according to experience.
