Tennants Auctioneers’ Book Sale on 2nd August saw buyers battling it out for scientific treatises and maps alongside an extremely rare volume of poetry containing early works by J. R. R. Tolkien and an uncorrected proof copy of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. 
Tennants of Leyburn’s Militaria & Ethnographica Sale on 9th August is set to include a private family collection late 19th century and early 20th century military uniforms and military accoutrements relating to the Westmorland & Cumberland Yeomanry, the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment and the Duke of Lancashire’s Own 3rd Lancashire Militia.
From an 18th century silk gown to a rare 1920s tunic designed by an American eccentric, four centuries of costume & textiles are to go under the hammer in Tennants Auctioneers sale of Vintage Costume, Textiles, Dolls & Teddy Bears on 12th August. 
A rare Beatles poster stole the show in a very buoyant sale of Toys, Models, Collectables & Sporting Items on 21st July. The sale attracted a remarkable number of bidders, both in the saleroom and on the internet; a level of interest that was reflected in strong prices for vintage advertising, fishing tackle, and sporting memorabilia.

A highly prized treasure for all who love the works of the Middle-Earth creator, this rarity carries an auction estimate of £3,000-5,000 and is expected to attract International attention.
A rare, diamond-shaped coin created during the English Civil War is one of the highlights of our forthcoming Coins, Banknotes & Tokens Sale on 26th July. The silver ninepence was made in Newark during the Civil War, under the reign of Charles I, as emergency coinage when the town was under siege. 
A first edition of Beatrix Potter’s Appley Dapply’s Nursery Rhymes is set for sale in Tennants’ Book, Maps & Ephemera Auction on 2nd August (Estimate: £800-1,200). The little volume, complete in its original dust wrapper, is in exceptionally good condition. Beloved by generations of children, Appley Dapply was the first book that departed from Beatrix Potter’s usual narrative tales. Potter was very fond of rhymes and had been gathering together verses and illustrations since the publication of her first book. 
Northern art and antiques continue to sell strongly – as proved in Tennants Auctioneers’ Summer Fine Art Sale on 15th July. From 19th century oil paintings to a piece of Bradford sporting history, good lots with a northern connection attracted attention from buyers in the region and from further afield. 
Tennants’ Summer Fine Art Sale on 15th July saw encouraging results for traditional art and antiques, in a sale that had a particularly strong selection of rare and unusual items across all departments. From a rare Donegal Carpet designed by CFA Voysey c.1900 (hammer price £6,200) to a fine and rare ‘Ed White’ Pre-Moon Chronograph Omega Speedmaster wristwatch (hammer price £7,500), collectors from around the world sought out unique lots from good makers.
A rare poster for a concert starring ‘The Sensational Beatles’ at the Royal Hall, Harrogate is to be auctioned in Leyburn, North Yorkshire on 21st July.
