Tennants to offer an ecclectic collection of vehicles

At the core of the Tennants’ Autumn Motor Vehicles and Automobilia sale is ‘An Eclectic Collection’ of thirty vehicles including rare and custom-built cars. Each car has been carefully sourced by the private vendor and excellently maintained over a thirty year period.

Of particular note is a unique custom 1966 Cadillac American 4-door Presidential Style Convertible reputedly built for the 1966 Earls Court Motor Show, which was supposedly later purchased by the Governor of Texas and used as his parade car. Another rare vehicle is a 1984 Bentley Mulsanne Turbo LWB, only eighteen of which were ever made. The Bentley Mulsanne was a luxury performance car, made by Bentley Motor’s Ltd and named after the Mulsanne Straight, the stretch of the Le Mans race course where vehicles reach their highest speeds.

The most eye-catching addition to the collection, however, is a custom built 1984 Panther Kallista ‘Pink Panther’. This candy-pink car was built by the Panther West Winds Car Company, under licence from the United Artists Corporation as a competition prize for a travel company, and was the first pink car to be produced by Panther. The winner of the car used the car for charity work around Europe, and it comes complete with a large collection of Pink Panther related items including a full-size costume.

In the vendors own words “the logic for the collection is non-existent.  Each car simply said to me that it was different and hence they go from the sublime to the ridiculous. Cars are in my genes, as my dad was an avid petrol head.  He taught me to drive in a field, when I was under age, in a Standard Vanguard phase1; when time and resources subsequently allowed, the collection started to evolve.  Initially by the purchase of my company car when it came up for change in 1984, the Cortina Estate which is just one of the cars I am auctioning this sale”.

Other highlights of this impressive private collection include: a 1950 Ford V8 Pilot; a 1960 Buick Invicta 4 door Pillarless Flat Top Sedan; a 1964 Triumph Herald 12/50; a 1967 Bentley H J Mulliner Park Ward 2 door Fixed Head Coupe; a 1972 Austin 1300 MK. 111 (11,000 miles); a 1973 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow Series 1; a 1973 MG BGT V8 2 door Fixed Head Coupe; a 1976 Lincoln Continental Mk IV Bill Blass; a 1977 Cadillac Fleetwood; a 1986 Jaguar XJSC V12 Cabriolet and a 1993 Jaguar XJ40 V12 Van Den Plas.

All the vehicles in the collection are in great condition, and come complete with a current MOT ready to drive away. “They all have their stories to tell, have their own characters and have given me untold pleasure in themselves and the wonderful world of classic cars”.

Highlights of the Autumn Motor Sale from other vendors include a 1977 Triumph Stag Convertible, three vintage Morris cars dating from the 1930s, and a good collection of automotive signs, mascots and petrol globes.
