Furniture

The Furniture Department handles British and European furniture from the 16th century to the late 19th century. The department’s expertise and knowledge encompasses English vernacular oak furniture, fine Georgian, Regency and Victorian furniture, and fine French and Continental furniture.

Period furniture is sold throughout the auction calendar. To maximise the potential of each piece consigned, furniture is carefully placed into the most suitable sale. These include: Fine Sales, which are held three times a year and showcase the best traditional furniture that the department offers; Country House Sales, which feature traditional pieces reminiscent of the English Country House, often sourced from private estates throughout the country; and Antiques and Interiors Sales, held fortnightly, which offer a selection of affordable furnishing pieces.

From entire house contents to single pieces, the department specialist can advise you on all aspects of buying and selling furniture at auction. Professional valuations for insurance and probate can be arranged, and the specialist is able to offer valuations for large and heavy items by email or post. Transport of large and heavy items can also be arranged through our in-house service.

For late 19th Century and 20th Century furniture, including Art and Crafts, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Modernist and Mid-Century and Contemporary Designer furniture please see the 20th Century Design Department.

We are now inviting entries for our forthcoming sales. If you have items you would like to consign, please request a free valuation using the link below.
