Exhibition: Piers Browne 'North East Seascapes and Other Seas'

A spectacular exhibition of shimmering seascapes by Piers Browne, one of Yorkshires best-loved artists, will re-launch the exhibition programme at The Garden Rooms at Tennants in Leyburn. The exhibition opens on 22^nd July and will celebrate the beauty of the North East coast, bringing a much-needed dose of fresh sea air after more than a year of lockdowns.

The exhibition will showcase Piers Browne’s characteristically vibrant and light-filled paintings of the much-loved Yorkshire coast from Saltburn to Bridlington, as well as favourite locations around the British Isles and glimpses of sunnier Mediterranean seas. With this exhibition, Piers Browne will be supporting the Alderney Wildlife Trust, which was founded in 2002 to study, protect and champion the island’s wildlife for the future.

Browne says of his seascapes ‘A North-East sea can encourage me to raptures and offers endless inspiration whether provoked by storms or lying calm like a vast plain. I love to analyse and capture the exact yet subtle interactions of water and light, fleeting moments; sparkling light on water is a gift to the eye and the brush’.

Piers Browne is a highly acclaimed landscape artist and colourist who works predominantly in oils and etching. Based in the Yorkshire Dales, Browne’s work has taken him from Ireland to Iceland as well as Morocco, Greece and the South of France. Throughout his long an illustrious career, Browne has exhibited at over 75 one-man shows, and regularly has work accepted into the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition. In addition, he has produced a body of illustrated literary work including an edition of A.E. Housman’s ‘A Shropshire Lad’ ‘The Glorious Trees of Britain’ which drew praise from the likes of H.R.H. The Prince of Wales and Melvyn Bragg.
