Exhibition: Sarah Cemmick & David Cemmick

7th August 2020 to 23rd August 2020

Sarah and David Cemmick find inspiration in the natural world around them, and in this exhibition translate their passion for the animal form in two contrasting media: lino print and bronze.

Sarah Cemmick

Sarah graduated in Environmental Illustration at the University of Sunderland in 1996. With help from the Prince’s Trust she began printmaking full time, which started a love affair with the lino print. In 1998 she received the Lloyd’s Private Banking award from the Society of Wildlife Artists annual exhibition at The Mall Galleries, London for her print ‘Rhino Lino’.

Using traditional printing techniques, Sarah’s designs are carved into lino blocks and printed before some pieces are additionally tinted with watercolour to give added texture. She also uses beautiful Japanese tissue with gold and silver foil flecks, further enhancing the decorative effects of her printed images.

Sarah’s has been commissioned to produce work for the National Trust, Artists Cards Ltd and Holland & Holland, Mayfair, London, and further work can be seen at galleries throughout the UK.

Sarah now lives and works from her home 'The Pink House' in Cumbria alongside her artist husband David, two children, Rosie and Woody and her new muse, Bonzo the mini long-haired dachshund. Influenced by wildlife, be it fluffy, furry or feathered, Sarah has continued to explore a variety of natural themes, the hare being a particular favourite.

David Cemmick

Darlington-born David Cemmick’s twin passions for animals and art grew from a young age. He developed a detailed knowledge of animal and bird anatomy during his time working as an apprentice taxidermist, whilst he continued to draw at every opportunity.

When his first solo exhibition sold out, his career as a wildlife artist was launched, and he travelled the globe learning the art of drawing and painting animals from life and in motion. After exhibiting extensively throughout the UK, David was commissioned to create a range of limited edition animal and bird sculptures for porcelain manufacturer Albany of England.

Following a stint as senior lecturer in Environmental Illustration at the University of Sunderland, David returned to focus on producing bronze and silver limited edition sculptures. In 2008 he began to exhibit with internationally renowned gunmakers Holland and Holland, and soon became their main gallery artist in their flagship Mayfair store in London.

David’s artwork is represented in Royal and Private Collections around the world.
