Sally Arnup: Life in Bronze

4th December 2019 to 2nd January 2020

Sally Arnup (1930-2015) was one of the finest figurative bronze sculptors of her age and had a well-earned reputation both nationally and internationally for her life-like animal sculptures.

This exhibition will showcase over sixty sculptures from the York artist’s estate, which will go on to be sold at auction at Tennants, beginning in January 2020. In addition, the exhibition will include a recreation of the sculptor’s studio and will offer visitors the chance to see wax and plasticine models on loan from the Arnup family.

Tennants 20th Century Design Specialist Diane Sinnott and Modern Art Specialist Francesca Young will talk about the importance of Sally Arnup’s life and work.

Talk

4th December, 2pm

Diane Sinnott and Francesca Young will be talking about the history of bronze sculpture in the 20th century and the portrayal of animals in art. They will be accompanied by Aron McCartney, a bronze founder who cast Sally Arnup’s work for many years, who will offer an insight into this fascinating and complicated process.
