The Living Landscape an Exhibition by Lynn Ward & Jo Garlick
Tennants is delighted to present a new exhibition from two much-loved local artists, Lynn Ward and Jo Garlick, who capture the landscape and wildlife of our region.
The exhibition is free to visit, and all works will be for sale.
About the artists
Lynn Ward
Lynn Ward is an artist known for murals and landscape painting. Her work has been exhibited around North Yorkshire and can be seen at her studio in Leyburn.
Being born and bred in Yorkshire, Lynn's artwork is strongly inspired by her stunning surroundings. She mostly uses acrylic or oil paint, which is primarily landscapes but not the traditional ‘view’.
“I am drawn to contrasts whether it be stormy skies or shapes and shadows created by a gate or a stonewall, which the Dales provide in abundance”.
Lynn gained a HND Illustration in 1993, following an Art foundation course, but her career began with an architectural firm where she spent a number of years working on murals and sculptures for The Forbidden Corner.
Bespoke pieces have ranged from pantomime scenery to murals in restaurants, even a 90’ x 8’ depiction of the Evacuation of Dunkirk. Most recently she has executed a 24' x 8' depiction of Aldborough in Roman times, which now resides at Dunesforde Vineyard.
Jo Garlick
Jo is a North Yorkshire Artist who has lived in the Yorkshire Dales all her life and is fascinated by all elements of the natural world, especially wildlife. She studied at Newcastle University and received an Honours Degree in Fine Art. Since obtaining her degree, she has had work accepted by various galleries in Yorkshire and the North East.
Her love of art started at an early age – besides the drawing, painting, and sculpture which she was naturally drawn to, her father had an old SLR camera which he allowed her to use, and Jo was fascinated by the many and various results she could get with differing compositions and light. Her interest in photography means that her camera is always at the ready to capture landscape and wildlife, inspiring her sometimes unusual pictures.
Jo works predominantly in soft pastels and loves the versatility that the medium offers. Her favourite brand is Unison Colour Soft Pastels, hand-made in Northumberland, due to their excellent quality and great colour range. With the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors on her doorstep she has a wealth of inspiration on offer and uses the medium to create vibrant pictures, not only of British wildlife but also of a broad spectrum of landscapes inspired by the character and heritage of the area.
