"Shamrock"
"Rufford Beauty"
The birds in the portraits belonged to Mr George Nunns of Guisley, West Yorkshire, a mill owner and renowned breeder and flyer of homing pigeons and member of numerous flying clubs. He also bred and trained long distance homing pigeons for the services during both world wars. The paintings depict three of his champions, Shamrock, Rufford Beauty and Chumie. The vendor’s grandfather, Mr Ernest Hall, worked for Geo. Nunns and Son Ltd. and Nunn’s son Clifford when he took over his father’s birds.
