Magnum of Richebourg Grand Cru Sells for £9,000

2nd September 2022.

The Fine Wine and Whisky Sale at Tennants Auctioneers on 2nd September saw a host of rare vintages from top producers come under the hammer, led by an outstanding magnum of Richebourg Grand Cru 1969, Domaine De La Romanee-Conti which sold for £9000 (plus buyer’s premium).

With plenty of interesting bottles from private collections, buyers were able to secure bottles of what could be fantastic wine at reasonable prices, despite condition issues. Of particular note was a bottle of Chateau Petrus 1947 1er grand cru Pomerol, bottled by the Belgian company Vandermeulen & Co. that sold for £1,300. Unusual bottles of spirits saw plenty of interest, too, with a 1969 Chartreuse Liqueur selling for £850.

Good prices were seen across the board for whisky, too, with good bottles for collectors and drinking selling well above estimate. Highlights of the section included a Port Ellen 1980 23 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (sold for £650), a Macallan Elegancia 1992 Single Highland Malt Scotch Whisky, sold together with a Macallan Gold Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky (sold for £650), and a Glenlivet 1971 32 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (sold for £480).
