A rare archive of early West Ham United football programmes is expected to sell for over £10,000 when it goes under the hammer at Tennants Auctioneers, North Yorkshire on 1st April.
Dating between 1913 and 1945, the collection was put together by the vendor’s grandfather, a devoted West Ham supporter who kept all the programmes from the matches he attended. In total, the collection includes 164 programmes, which are being sold in ten lots.
Tennants’ Sporting Memorabilia Specialist Kegan Harrison says of the collection: “This is a remarkable collection, with some really rare programmes including one from the first match ever played at Wembley Stadium in 1923 when West Ham went up against Bolton Wanderers. Poignantly, there are also several programmes from the Second World War era, when numerous last minute team changes had to have been made, which are written in by hand”.
