The Coins, Tokens and Banknotes Sale on 7th May included a good section of Roman coins, which attracted plenty of interest. Highlights of the section included a Roman Imperial, Nero Sestertius, which sold for £400 (all figures exclude buyers premium).
Gold continues to excel, with a UK Gold Proof Set 1980 comprising four coins selling for £4,800, a George III Sovereign 1820 selling for £1,500, and a George III Guinea 1799 selling for £1,700. A rare One Silver Dollar issued by the Yue Soo Imperial Bank sold well, too at £2,200.
Elsewhere in the sale, a Charles II Crown 1673 sold for £400, and a Victoria Error Penny 1858 sold for £220.
The sale achieved a total hammer price of £124,130 for 375 lots offered, and a 98% sold rate, and consignments are currently invited for the next Coins, Tokens and Banknotes Sale on 8th August.
