Chanel in Demand in the Saleroom

12th November 2021.

Chanel was certainly the name to watch in the Tennants Auctioneers’ inaugural Fabulous Designer Fashion Sale on 12th November, when handbags and jewellery by the famed fashion house were snapped up by buyers.

Leading the was a much-coveted Chanel Quilted Black Double-Flap Shoulder Bag, one of the most recognisable handbags in the world, which more than doubled the top estimate to sell for £2,700 (plus buyer’s premium). A Chanel Black Patent Uni Classic Handbag sold well, too, at £2,200. Chanel costume jewellery attracted a great deal of interest, and competitive bidding pushed prices well above estimate. Highlights included a Simulated Pearl Necklace by Chanel (sold for £850), and a Black Resin Pendant on Chain and Two Pairs of Drop Earrings, both by Chanel (sold for £600).

Lots from the luxury brand Hermès sold strongly too. Indeed, the top lot of the sale was a Hermès Taupe Leather Haut à Courroies 40 Bag, made circa 2015, which sold for £5,500 and a smart Hermès Kelly Sac a Depeche briefcase from circa 2007 sold for £3,500. The classic Hermès silk scarves in the sale all sold well above their estimates, with ‘Fantaises Indiennes’ designed by Loic Dubigeon selling for £220 and ‘Collier de Chiens’ designed by Virginie Jamin selling for £220.

Elsewhere in the sale a Gianni Versace Silver Photograph Frame sold for £320, a 2004 Tom Ford for Gucci Dragon Pearl Handbag sold for £750, and a Louis Vuitton Trouville Tote Multicolore Monogram Handbag sold for £420.
