Results: Stamps, Postal History & Postcards 23rd September

Strong bidding throughout Tennants Auctioneers' Stamps, Postal History & Postcards Sale on 23rd September drove a 99% sold rate and a total hammer price of £177,410, 35% above the top estimate.

The specialist sale featured over 200 lots, including advanced collections of Great Britain and Commonwealth material, specialised Romania collections, East China Liberated Areas, Hong Kong, postal history and postcards. Interest was evident across all sections of the sale, with active bidding from collectors and dealers alike.

Amongst the highlights of the sale was an impressive collection in a hingeless Stanley Gibbons album, the majority mint from line-engraved onwards, which attracted keen competition from bidders and sold for £9,500 against a presale estimate of £4,000-5,000 (all figures exclude buyer’s premium). Also amongst the leading lots was The decimal QEII and KCIII accumulation from the estate of the Knaresborough hoarder, in stockbooks and binders filling four containers, with gutter pair sets, prestige and folded booklets, miniature sheets and presentation packs, all running to 2025, which sold for £8,500. A highly complete six-volume King George VI mint collection in SG albums with slipcases, sold for £5,500.

The high sold rate reflects sustained demand for quality philatelic material, postcards and postal history, with buyers showing particular enthusiasm for well-presented collections, specialised studies and scarce individual items.
