The El-Shamy Wine Collection

8th May 2019.

An exceptional Private Cellar of Fine Wines from the Estate of the late Drs. Kamal and Margaret El-Shamy of York is being sold in a single owner sale at Tennants Auctioneers in North Yorkshire on 5th July. Encapsulating many of the greatest wines produced over the last four decades, it is arguably the most important UK wine sale to be held outside London in recent years.

Acquired from the Wine Society and the Wine Growers Association, this iconic collection comes with perfect provenance and includes numerous wines that have been given the ultimate seal of approval, a 100-point score by legendary wine critic Robert Parker. These lots include twelve bottles of Chateau Haut Brion 1989 (estimate: £18,000-20,000 plus buyer’s premium), six bottles of Chateau Margaux 1996 (estimate: £2,000-3,000 plus buyer’s premium), twelve bottles of Chateau Montrose 1989 (estimate: £2,000-4,000 plus buyer’s premium) and twelve bottles of Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1986 (estimate: £4,000-6,000 plus buyer’s premium). These wines alone would be enough to make this an exceptional sale, but it also includes outstanding vintages from the leading estates in Bordeaux.

Burgundy's most famous wine producing region is represented by Domaine de la Romanee-Conti La Tâche 1990 (estimate: £20,000-30,000 plus buyer’s premium for six bottles), Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Grands Echezeaux 1990 (£12,000-20,000 plus buyer’s premium for six bottles) and Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Richebourg 1990 (£12,000-20,000 plus buyer’s premium for six bottles). They are the stars of a tremendous line up, which also includes René Engel's Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 1993, the Domaine Armand Rousseau Chambertin Clos de Beze Grand Cru 1993, Jacques Frederic Mugier's Musigny Grand Cru 1990 and Domaine Dujac's Clos de La Roche Grand Cru 1990.

Further examples from the most desired names in wine are up for auction too, with bottles from d'Yquem, Domaine Meo-Camuzet, Taylors, Fonseca also amongst this extraordinary collection.
