A Golden Dram!

21st September 2021.

A hogshead cask of Macallan 1989 Single Malt Scotch Whisky sold for £98,000 (£109,760 inclusive of plus buyer’s premium and VAT) in Tennants Auctioneers’ Whisky and Fine Wine Sale on 17th September.  The cask was being sold by a Yorkshire businessman, who had purchased it a little over 25 years ago for just £1,100. The cask had since been carefully stored in bond at Deanston Distillery in Perthshire.

The cask will yield the new owner approximately 120 bottles of 32-year-old Macallan, one of the most sought-after whiskies. Tennants’ Whisky Specialist William McNab described the whisky as being ‘The colour of Chardonnay with a rich gold core, being very smooth on the palate with spicy high notes, a subtle and sophisticated nose with warm and fruity aromas, and lingering dry oaky tones to the finish’.

The North Yorkshire Auctioneers have already lined up further casks of single malt whisky, which will be sold in the next Whisky and Fine Wine Sale on 17th December. For further details, contact the specialist William McNab on 01969 623780.
