Rare Bottle of Whisky Sells for £8,000

A rare bottle of whisky sold for an astounding £8,000 in the Fine Wine and Whisky Sale at Tennants Auctioneers on 9^th September, following a heated bidding battle by buyers all over the world (all figures exclude buyer’s premium.

The bottle in question was the Largiemeanoch 1969 10 Years Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky, which was issued by the independent bottlers The Whisky Connoisseur in 1979 from a cask of ten-year-old whisky from the Islay distillery Bowmore. It was one of a whole range of bottlings by The Whisky Connoisseur, all marketed under their own archaic-style distillery names.

The market for vintage whisky remains buoyant, and further strong prices were seen for a Macallan 1961 Pure Highland Malt Scotch Whisky (sold for £2,500), and a Springbank 21 Year Old Campbeltwon Single Malt Scotch Whisky (sold for £950). Amongst the spirits in the sale was a L. Garnier Yellow Chartreuse from the 1960s, which sold well at £900.

Good prices for fine wine were seen, too, with a group of seven bottles of Grand Vin De Château Latour, 1990 Pauillac selling for £2,800, and twelve bottles of Château Lynch Bages 1985, Paulliac, Grand Cru Classé selling for £1,600.
